Miracle Year Anniversary: The 100th Anniversary
of Einstein's publication of his theory of light. This was the first
of five ground-breaking papers published when Einstein was 26, in
1905, known as Einstein's "Miracle Year." The paper postulated
that light could be thought of as a particle (later called the photon)
and is one of the founding papers of quantum theory. Published in
the journal Annalen de Physik, the paper is entitield “On
a Heuristic Point of View concerning the Production and Transformation
of Light.” |

Miracle Year Anniversary: Einstein published a
paper in 1905 on the random motions of molecules, and laid to rest
any remaining doubt that atoms were particles -- namely physical entities
as opposed to fuzzy clouds of energy. Also published in Annalen
der Physik, the paper is called “On the Movement of Small Particles
Suspended in Stationary Liquids Required by the Molecular-Kinetic
Theory of Heat.” |

Miracle Year Anniversary: The
Special Theory of Relativity is published in 1905 -- the paper
is called “On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies.” |
| November 21 |
Miracle Year Anniversary: Einstein published the
first version of the equation that what would become his most famous
legacy: E=mc˛. The paper is called
“Does the Inertia of a Body Depend upon Its Energy Content?” and postulated
that energy and mass are essentially equivalent. |
